What is a circumferential piston pump?

Q-Pumps circumferential piston pumps are known to be dimensionally and hydraulically 100% interchangeable with other brands on the market. Unlike other brands in the market, the Q-Pumps QP series supplies the pump with the 304 stainless steel gearbox without implying an increase in the final price of the equipment. They have great efficiency, since it is a positive displacement pump that easily handles low-viscosity products such as water, up to highly viscous products such as toothpaste, which require medium and high discharge pressures.

How does a circumferential piston pump work?

The circumferential piston pump transfers the fluid through the expansion and contraction of cavities generated by the rotary movement of the rotor blade, also called the piston.

This movement creates a continuous partial vacuum at the suction port as the pistons move apart, drawing fluid into the pump. The fluid is transported around the casing and is subsequently expelled due to the engagement of the pistons at the discharge port.

The pistons are made of an alloy resistant to friction (non-galling) which allows for smaller clearances between the rotor and casing compared to other types of pumps. These small gaps guarantee greater volumetric efficiency, mainly with low-viscosity fluids and/or high pressures to overcome.

In what type of industry are circumferential piston pumps used?

Due to its wide range of applications and different viscosities handled by the QP pump, it can be used in the following industries:

- Dairy products
- Foods
- Beverages
- Pharmaceutical
- Personal hygiene

Advantages of the circumferential piston pump

  • 100% interchangeable and compatible with other brands or Q-Pumps.
  • Seals and gear box made of stainless steel, which represents a great advantage over traditional cast iron boxes.
  • Arrows made of a single metal, which makes them much more resistant.
  • Models QP1 and QP2 can be rebuilt using larger rotors to extend equipment life.

Main features of the circumferential piston pump

  • Stainless steel gearbox, surpassing the quality of the competitor's cast iron boxes.
  • 304 stainless steel seals.
  • Arrows 14-4ph H-1150.
  • Helical gears.
  • Flexibility for 4 mounting positions.
  • Grease fittings threaded on both sides.
  • Solid wave spring 17-7ph.
  • Antimicrobial lubricant.
  • 88 alloy rotors.
  • 6 threaded oil plugs with glass sight glasses.
  • With self-cleaning gaskets on the caps.

Which organisms certify sanitary standards and which ones do Q-Pumps circumferential piston pumps have?

3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc.
3-A SSI is an association dedicated to promoting the design of hygienic equipment for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. Q-Pumps has two certifications: 1004 certified and 1805 certified.

European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group
European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) is a consortium of equipment manufacturers, food industries, research institutes and public health authorities whose aim is to promote hygiene during food processing and packaging.
